Her bubbly personality will win you over even after a Cryotherapy session.  Maureen will make you not only feel comfortable through a cold therapy session but will also make it feel like you just gained a new friend.

How long have you been a Cryotherapy Specialist?

I have been a Cryotherapy Specialist for 7 months now with the Charlotte Athletic Club.

Has fitness always been a part of your life or did you at some point make a decision to seek out that lifestyle?

Fitness has always been a part of my life. I was a competitive Irish dancer for 13 years, and with that came a lot of hard work in both the gym and studio. After my dancing career, I moved to Charlotte to attend college at Johnson & Wales University to study Food and Beverage management. Being in college, and the food industry, can make it difficult to stay healthy and fit, but with the help of my best friend we found fun ways to still get a great work out in.

How has Cryotherapy changed your life?

As long as I can remember, I have suffered from lower back pain. Through the use of Cryotherapy my pain is gone, and I feel better than I ever have before. Cryotherapy has definitely changed my life, but I think the most rewarding part of my job is how much Cryotherapy has changed my clients’ lives.

Were you involved in sports while in school?

I played volleyball while in school along with competitively dancing.

Describe what to expect from Cryotherapy to a new client?

Most people’s reservations about Cryotherapy are how cold it is. I always tell my new clients that if you have ever done the ice bucket challenge or jumped in any cold body of water that is much more traumatizing than Cryotherapy could ever be. You will be cold during the session, and feel a tingling sensation on the skin. However, we provide you with protective gear to make you as comfortable as possible during the 3-minute session. In addition, it is a dry cold so the tingling sensation subsides immediately, and you warm back up within minutes. Your body then feels completely refreshed and energized!

What is your trick to not think about the cold when in a Cryo session?

Just keep talking…I always engage in conversation with my clients asking about their day, family, travels, etc. to keep their mind focused on the conversation and not the cold. You eventually just get lost in conversation, and the 3 minutes fly by.

What has your experience been with Charlotte Athletic Club so far? In what way has it stood apart from other gyms or facilities that you have worked with?

The best part about working for CAC is the relationships that I have built with not only my fellow employees but our members as well. I have created so many great relationships with people from so many different backgrounds here, and I feel that it has given me a more positive and open-minded out look on life. Aside from the amazing members, CAC offers a full range of amenities to our members from laundry service to Cryotherapy that definitely sets it apart from all other gyms.

Where were you born?

I was born and raised in Augusta, GA

What are your biggest indulgences?

My biggest indulgence has to be any and all

What is on your bucket list?

My bucket list includes: go sky diving, travel the world, ride an elephant, learn to scuba dive, open a no kill shelter/sanctuary for neglected and abused animals.

Who are your heroes?

My mom is by far my biggest hero. She is the most amazing role model, teacher, and mother I could have ever asked for!

What song instantly puts you in a good mood?

Anything Michael Buble instantly makes me smile

What is the best advice you have ever received?

Enjoy being young because adulthood is not all it is cracked up to be.
